The above marker is located at the corner of US Hwy 82 and Main Street. Greenville is the county seat of Washington County, Mississippi. My family and I lived there for 2 years from July 1989 to July 31st 1991. We visited here on Febuary 28th, 2004 for the Holt Collier Headstone Dedication at Live Oak Cemetery. Holt Collier was a guide for Teddy Roosevelt in his Mississippi Bear Hunts, was a African American Confederate Soldier who drew a Confederate pension after the war from the State of Mississippi and a respected person of the community. I was hoping to get a picture of the Historical Marker about him at the cemetery but it had been damaged and had not been restored to the cemetery by this date. I have place a link to a picture of his headstone below. I am a member of the Holt Collier Sons of Confederate Veterans in West Point MS which is named after him.
